Arsenal have reportedly added Christian Kofane to their list of attacking targets as preparations for the summer transfer window continue.
The young striker has impressed for Bayer Leverkusen this season, scoring five goals and providing four assists in just 12 starts. Those performances have quickly established him as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young forwards, attracting interest from several top European clubs
Kofane is already familiar to Arsenal supporters, having featured against Mikel Arteta’s side during the Champions League knockout stages.
Although he did not register a goal or assist across the tie, he showed flashes of his potential and caused problems for Arsenal’s defence with his movement and physicality.
Even William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães were tested at times by the young forward’s direct approach.
Barcelona could become Arsenal’s biggest competition
While several clubs are monitoring Kofane’s situation, Barcelona are believed to be among the most serious contenders for his signature alongside Arsenal, report Africa Foot.
Newcastle United, Chelsea, Brentford, and Bayern Munich are also noted as other suitors, but are said to be behind the aforementioned duo in the transfer race.
Barcelona are expected to enter the market for a long term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, whose time at the club appears to be entering its final phase. That could give the Spanish side a significant advantage in the race.
Unlike Arsenal, who may initially view Kofane as a developmental option behind Viktor Gyökeres and Kai Havertz, Barcelona could offer him a clearer path toward becoming their first choice striker in the future.
That difference in opportunity may ultimately influence the player’s decision. At 19, regular playing time will likely be a major factor in choosing his next club.
Do Arsenal really need Kofane?
This could potentially be the final season for Gabriel Jesus at Arsenal. The Brazilian currently sits behind Gyökeres and Havertz in the attacking hierarchy, and his long term future at the club remains uncertain.
Should Jesus depart, Arsenal would need another striker capable of offering depth, variety, and long term potential. Kofane appears to fit that profile well.

The teenager combines strength, pace, technique, and intelligent hold up play. Despite his age, he already looks physically prepared for top level football and demonstrated that during Leverkusen’s meetings with Arsenal in Europe.
Importantly, he also offers a different profile from both Gyökeres and Havertz. His style is more direct and aggressive, while his athleticism gives him the ability to stretch defences in transition.
Given his age, Arsenal would also have time to develop him gradually without placing immediate pressure on him to become the team’s leading striker.
If managed properly, Kofane could develop into a top class forward while providing valuable depth in the short term. For Arsenal, that combination of present utility and future potential may make him a very smart target heading into the summer window.
