Alabama Wins Five-Star Battle as Georgia Misses on Cederian Morgan
Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have been lighting it up on the recruiting trail lately, building one of the top 2026 classes in the country. But even the hottest programs can’t win them all.
On Thursday, Georgia took a rare loss when five-star wide receiver Cederian Morgan announced his commitment to Alabama, choosing to stay home and play for the Crimson Tide instead of heading east to Athens. The news was first reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
“BREAKING: Five-Star WR Cederian Morgan has Committed to Alabama, he tells me for @rivals,” Fawcett posted on social media. “The No. 2 WR in the ‘26 Class chose the Crimson Tide over Florida, Georgia, & Colorado.”
Morgan, a towering 6-foot-4, 210-pound wideout from Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, Alabama, is not just a local favorite — he’s one of the most sought-after receivers in the country. His junior season was nothing short of electric: 70 catches, 1,162 yards, 14 touchdowns, and a consistent presence on the highlight reel.
Shortly after making it official, Morgan proudly leaned into his hometown roots, declaring:
“Bama made, Bama raised, Bama stayed!!!! RTR.”
According to On3, Morgan ranks as the No. 14 overall player nationally, the No. 2 wide receiver, and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Alabama for the 2026 class.
Georgia Still Strong Despite the Miss
Losing a talent like Morgan stings — especially when it comes at the hands of a direct rival like Alabama. But Georgia isn’t exactly hurting when it comes to wide receiver depth in the 2026 class.
The Bulldogs recently added four-star receiver Craig Dandridge, pairing him with fellow four-star Ryan Mosely and three-star Brady Marchese. In fact, Georgia currently holds the No. 2-ranked recruiting class in the nation with an impressive 26 commitments already on board.
That group includes:
- Five-star quarterback Jared Curtis
- Four-star running back Jae Lamar
- Four-star EDGE Khamari Brooks
- A loaded secondary class with standouts like Chace Calicut, Justin Fitzpatrick, and Zech Fort
So while Cederian Morgan might have slipped through their fingers, the Bulldogs remain loaded with blue-chip talent — and there’s still plenty of time to add more firepower before signing day.
For now, Alabama celebrates keeping one of the state’s top stars at home, while Georgia shifts focus to the next big name on their board. In the world of recruiting, wins and losses come quickly — but for the Dawgs, this class is still very much one to bark about.
