Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is officially beginning a new chapter in the NFL after being selected by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Once considered a potential target for the Dallas Cowboys, Ewers now finds himself competing for a backup role in Miami’s quarterback room.

Ewers, who transferred from Ohio State to Texas in 2022, had a strong college career with the Longhorns. He threw for over 9,000 yards and 68 touchdowns, helping lead Texas to multiple College Football Playoff appearances. Despite his college success, his draft stock fell, and he wasn’t picked until 231st overall.

Sources say the Cowboys showed interest in Ewers during the scouting process but ultimately passed on selecting a quarterback. Instead, the Dolphins took a chance on him late in the draft, adding him to a roster already featuring Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson.

Speaking to reporters at rookie minicamp, Ewers expressed gratitude for the opportunity.

> “I’m thankful to be here and ready to work,” he said. “Whatever my role is, I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.”

Now in Miami, Quinn Ewers has a fresh start and a chance to prove doubters wrong. While his path to a starting job may take time, the former Longhorn standout is embracing the challenge and hoping to make the most of his NFL opportunity.
