BREAKING NEWS: Michigan Head Coach Sherrone Moore Invests \$3.6 Million to Open Shelter for Homeless Youth in Detroit
Detroit, MI – May 19, 2025
In a powerful act of community leadership, University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore has invested \$3.6 million of his personal earnings to transform a vacant property in Detroit into a shelter and resource center for homeless youth.
The facility, set to open later this year, will provide housing, meals, mental health support, educational services, and job training programs for at-risk youth across the city. Moore, a rising star in college football and the first Black head coach in Michigan football history, called the move “bigger than football.”
> “I’ve been given a platform, and with that comes responsibility,” Moore said in a statement. “Detroit has talent, heart, and soul—but too many kids are slipping through the cracks. This is about giving them a real shot at life.”
Local leaders praised the initiative, calling it a game-changer for youth development in the region. The shelter will be named “The Blueprint House,” symbolizing the path toward rebuilding lives and futures.
Moore, known for his passion both on and off the field, says this is just the beginning. “If we want to build champions, we start by building people,” he added.
Construction is already underway, with the center expected to open its doors by late fall 2025
