Florida football QB DJ Lagway to begin throwing soon, coach Billy Napier says after spring game

 

 

 

 

Florida football will soon have its QB1 throwing again.

 

 

 

 

Coach Billy Napier announced Saturday after UF’s Orange and Blue spring football game that DJ Lagway will begin throwing the ball soon.

 

 

 

 

“He’ll start throwing in a couple of weeks. Very positive there. The lower body stuff is good,” Napier said. “He’s been able to get through that, and I think we’re working on getting him in position for the next step.”

 

 

 

 

Napier confirmed that he’ll be ready and throwing in time for OTAs in June.

 

Lagway competed in the spring game, but he did not throw. He handed the ball off to running backs — a role he continued four times Saturday with Jaden Baugh and Ja’Kobi Jackson.

 

 

 

 

The QB has suffered a lingering shoulder injury, and there have been worries that he would need surgery.

 

 

 

 

Napier said Lagway has tried to find the positive through his injuries as he’s frustrated, he hasn’t been able to throw.

 

 

 

 

“I think the big thing for me is how you challenge them. How can you affect the team every day, independent of your production performance?” Napier said. “I think his ability to connect with his teammates, to create leadership opportunities throughout practice and the offseason program.”

 

 

 

 

The Blue team, led by Aidan Warner, defeated the Orange team, led by Harrison Bailey 38-32.
