Five-Star WR Stuns College Football, Decommits from Georgia Bulldogs and Flips to Florida Gators in Jaw-Dropping Move
Furman, an FCS school in Greenville, announced on Monday that it will play a road game at the Gamecocks’ Williams-Brice Stadium on Sept. 4, 2027.
The Furman game completes South Carolina’s four-game non-conference schedule for the 2027 season, per FBSchedules.com. USC is also set to play Appalachian State (Sept. 11) and travel to Miami (Sept. 18) that season before hosting Clemson in the schools’ annual rivalry game the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 27).
Under the current college football schedule for 2027, the USC-Furman game would be the Gamecocks’ second game of the season.
If South Carolina opens the season on the road or at a neutral site, the Furman game would also be its 2027 home opener.
Since South Carolina is now at four conference games for 2027, the Furman news also more or less confirms USC will open that season against an SEC opponent.
Furman and USC first played in 1892 and have played 50 games to date, most recently during the 2023 season. The Gamecocks won the most recent meeting 47-21.
South Carolina has won 14 of its last 15 meetings with Furman, and 13 of those 14 wins have been by double digits. Furman has only beaten USC once since 1949 (in 1982). The 2027 meeting will be just the fourth this century (2010, 2014, 2023).
The Gamecocks finished the 2024 season at 9-4 and ranked as high as No. 13 in the AP Top 25 and No. 14 in the College Football Playoff Top 25. Fifth-year coach Shane Beamer and USC are currently in the middle of 2025 spring practice.
