After playing wide receiver at Duke from 1989-93, he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Florida under his father from 1994-98. He then coached wide receivers at Oklahoma and for the Washington Redskins. Spurrier Jr. also served on the offensive staff at Arizona before joining his father at South Carolina, where he advanced to offensive coordinator. More recently, he coached wide receivers under the late Mike Leach at Washington State (2018-19) and Mississippi State (2020-22).
